ABSALOM STRAWN
Because she died intestate, this was how the land was
divided. It was very useful in showing the connection between two
"assumed" brothers, since in the document, the oldest male grandchild of
each brother is mentioned. Old Campbell County, Georgia Land Records 1828-1854 Deed book E page
451:
(The following Nalora transcribed from microfilm of the
original record at the Old Campbell County Courthouse, home of the Old
Campbell County Historical Society in Fairburn, GA, because it is much
clearer than what is in the Campbell Co. book. This points out clearly
that Martha STRAWN was the mother of Absalom
STRAWN. Absalom STRAWN owned this property originally. He deeded it
to his mother, Martha STRAWN. She gave or left
the property to her grandsons, James B. STRAWN
and Charles STRAWN, 1st born of Absolom and
Hiram STRAWN respectively.)
Georgia, Campbell Co.: This indenture made and entered
into this fourteenth day of January Eighteen Hundred and fifty-three
between James B. STRAWN of the one part and C.
C. MORRIS of the other part - both of the
County and State aforesaid witnessed that the said James B. STRAWN for and in consideration of the sum of four
hundred Dollars to him in hand paid by the said C. C. MORRIS at and before the sealing and delivery of
these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged hath granted
bargained and sold and do by these presents grant bargain and sell unto
the said C. C. MORRIS his heirs and assigns all
that tract or parcel of land situated or lying and being in (3) third
District of originally Carroll now Campbell County & said State known
and distinguished ________________ in the place of said District as part
of Fractions No (30) thirty and thirty-one it being the undivided half of
the land formerly owned A. STRAWN and deed from
him to Martha STRAWN his mother and left by
said Martha STRAWN late of Fayette County
deceased at her death either by will or deed of gift to the aforesaid
James B. STRAWN and Charles STRAWN to be equally divided between them said land
containing seventy-five acres more or less. The said James B. STRAWN's part being half of said land which is yet
undivided between him and the aforesaid Charles STRAWN. To have and to hold the aforesaid bargained
land and premises with all the right members and
________________________________ in anywise belonging to said bargained
land and _________________________________________ the said C. C. MORRIS heirs and assigns _________________ and his
own proper use benefit and behalf forever in fee simple and the said James
B. STRAWN for himself his heirs, executors, and
administrators the aforesaid bargained land & premises unto the said
C. C. MORRIS his heirs and assigns will warrant
and forever defend the right and title thereof from the claims of
themselves & from the claims of all other persons whatever ________
Testimony whereof the said James B. STRAWN hath
hereunto set his hand and affixed his seal the day and year
above. Signed sealed and delivered in the presence of Moses M. SMITH {T. BULLARD } J. B. STRAWN Georgia, Campbell County. In the name of God. Amen.
I, Absalom STRAWN of said
state & county being of advanced age and knowing I will shortly depart
this life, I deem it right & proper both as respects myself &
family that I __________ make a dispensation of the property with which a
kind providence has blest me with. I therefore make this my last will
& Testament, canceling all others heretofore made by me. Item 1st Item 2nd Item 3rd I desire that all my property both real and personal
remain in the possession of my beloved wife Susan during her natural life
in widowhood for the support of herself and family and schooling the
children. Item 4th I desire at the death or _________ marriage of my wife
so when the youngest __________ shall marry or become of age that all my
property be sold and an equal distribution be made between my legal
representatives with the exception of my son James B. STRAWN to whom I give and bequeath to him the sum of
$200 to be paid to him by my executrix at the time of the distribution of
the balance of my estate among the balance of my legal representatives
______ less the said James B. STRAWN being
heretofore provided for in past. Item 5th This July 10th 1859 (Signed)
Signed sealed declared and published by Absalom STRAWN as his last will and testament in the presence
of we inscribers who inscribed our names hereto in the presence of said
