The data following each name is arranged in the following order:

1 - "B" State in which born. Birth Date and birthplace where found.

2 - "A" Appointment. Manner and year in which appointed. Where a state is indicated after the letter "A" the officer was appointed from civil life from that state. "Army" indicates the officer was appointed from the Army. USMA indicates appointed from the United States Military Academy. The number in parenthesis indicates the order of Graduation from that institution shown in General Cullum's Biographical Register of Officers and Graduates, U S Military Academy.

3 - The period of service at Fort Gibson is noted after the key "Ft G". The rank shown under this heading is the highest rank attained by the officer during this period.

4 - Subsequent Military service, service in the Confederate States Army (CSA) and the holding of a high public office is noted in some cases.
5 - Manner and date of the termination of the officers active service. Under this heading the following abbreviations are used:
Res -- Resigned
Hon Dis -- Honorable Discharge
D. -- Died
Dr. -- Dropped from the rolls of the Army. Aslo indicates separated from service for causes other than resignation, discharge or death.
Retirement is indicated by a notation showing rank and date of retirement, as "Col., U S Army, Ret, Aug 1 1834"
