Flotha Barnett
The Verden News
March 30, 1923
Miss Flotha Barnett died at the home of her mother, Mrs. Eliza Barnett, in the west part of the town at 10 o'clock Wednesday night after a lingering illness of several weeks. She was born in Indiana March 27, 1903, and moved with her parents to Oklahoma some years later. Her parents having located in Verden, it was here she made her home and grew to young womanhood. About four weeks ago she was taken down with the flu and grew steadily worse until the end came. Everything that medical science and kind friends could do was done to restore her health, but He who rules the universe had decreed otherwise and she passed on leaving sad[ness] in our midst. Flotha was a good kindhearted girl, a faithful help to her mother, who is a widow with several small children to care for. In her own way she had formed a circle of friends whose love for her was manifested by the beautiful floral contributions. She leaves a mother, three sisters and one brother besides a large circle of friends and relatives to mourn her departure. Funeral services were held at the Baptist church and the services were conducted by the Rev. Chas. Mass, pastor of the Methodist church, after which her remains were layed to rest beside that of her father in our City cemetery. The attendance both at the church and cemetery were large and our entire city seemed to join in sorrow with those who were near and dear to her. The News extends sympathy to her loved ones in this sad hour.
